Amanda Whitewood BSC (HONS) NT, Dip DT, MBANT is a Nutritional Therapist and was a Registered General Nurse. She is a member of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. She was on the council for the British Association for applied nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and Chair of the Training and Standards Committee BANT from 2001-2007. During this period she was involved in accreditation of many courses in nutritional therapy. In addition she was involved with the government organization 'Skills for Health' in writing the National Occupational Standards for Nutritional Therapy.

Amanda spent 5 years in nursing specialising in oncology but had to leave as a result of a back injury. She furthered her medical career joining the pharmaceutical company Roche whereby she obtained a wealth of knowledge in all medical fields including heart disease, immunomodulatory therapies, blood pressure treatments, arthritis, Parkinson's disease and anaesthetics. Roche trained her in medical research, sales and marketing over her 6 years to a high standard. She launched new innovative drugs e.g. Vascace and Neupogen, providing her with experience in product marketing, developed skills in medical research and communication.

She specialised as a Biotherapy Consultant in advising the orthodox medical profession in latest treatments for oncology, haematology, AIDS and hepatitis. This led to her being Roche's top biotherapy representative for her outstanding sales achievement within the Biotherapy market. She left Roche to start her family, and when her children developed food allergies and colitis she had a hunger to understand why. She embarked on a diploma in nutrition and then an honours degree in nutrition at the University of Westminster. She had a particular interest in children's nutrition and researched into why infants are born with food allergies in her own study for her dissertation. In her continual desire to help others she set up a milk allergy association locally to support mothers with allergic children, and was inundated with parents of children with problems similar to her own.

She set up her own business Absolute Nutrition in 2001 which is centred locally in Hawkhurst and Battle since 2001. She was also a consultant for Dr Marilyn Glenville at Viveka working with Dr Yehoudi Gordan in his London practice, specialising in female hormones and fertility. To promote nutrition she gives regular talks to groups including healthcare professionals and recently gained her Qualified Teacher Status. She has been invited as a guest lecturer at the University of Westminster and other private nutrition colleges and regularly attends nutritional debates including in the Houses of Parliament. She has been heavily involved in the regulation of nutritional therapy and is very motivated to see it develop into mainstream health care.

She practises Functional Medicine which helps her identify dysfunctions in the physiology and biochemistry of the human body as a primary method of improving her patient's health. Scientific evidence strongly indicates that impaired physiological processes if not corrected lead to significant clinical imbalances in essential body systems. Using nutrition she teaches her patients how to work with their symptoms using diet and nutritional supplements.
